The Story Behind This Motif

The Mising people of Assam’s river islands are among the Northeast’s finest weavers — looms sit beneath their stilt homes along the Brahmaputra, and their bold geometry is woven into every stage of life, passed from mother to daughter for generations.

Mishing motif, is an important aspect of traditional Northeast attire seen in Mekhela Sador, a ceremonial and everyday dress for Assamese women.

The absence of Mishing design elements such as diamond shapes, complex geometric lines, or animal symbolism marks a "missing" Mishing presence.
